Oliver has been an impassioned soccer player ever since he was a boy. He began playing at the age of six as an outfielder for Karlsruher SC, before putting on the keeper's jersey and never looking back. His parents insisted that he get a good school education parallel to his sports, so he studied economics after gaining his German high-school diploma (Abitur). Karlsruhe offered him his first professional contract at the early age of 18. He played his first game in the Bundesliga in November 1987. With spectacular saves and top performances he was soon one of the top players at KSC. In 1994 Oliver Kahn transferred to FC Bayern Munich, where he became one of the key players and captain. He debuted in the German team goal against Switzerland in 1995 (2:1). His last game for Germany was the playoff for third and fourth at the 2006 FIFA World Cup against Portugal (3:1). | ||
