Scorpions

The band:

The band was formed in 1965 in Sarstedt by guitarist Rudolf Schenker and drummer Wolfgang Dziony. In 1969 frontman Klaus Meine and Michael Schenker joined the Scorpions. Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker were from then on the creative minds behind the band.
Unlike other German bands, the Scorpions wrote their lyrics in English from the outset. In 1972 their first record "Lonesome Crow" came out. In 1975 the Scorpions opened for "The Sweet" on their first European tour. In 1976 they toured Europe again as curtain raiser for Kiss.
With the album "Lovedrive" the Scorpions made the leap to the USA. "Lovedrive" went Gold there, which spelled the breakthrough onto this market for the Scorpions. After a number of highly successful concerts in the USSR, Michail Gorbatschow invited the Scorpions to the Kremlin in 1991. They were the first rock band to be given this honour, and it was just a few days before the fall of the Soviet Union. The single "Wind Of Change" that hit the market at this time went to No. 1 in eleven countries and would become the Scorpions most successful single.
Because of the many different band members that the Scorpions have over the years, their style of music has developed constantly and made the Scorpions one of the biggest rock bands in the world.
The Scorpions have sold more than 80 million records to date!
